Friday Beach is a movie directed by Tchidi Chikere and written by Uchenna Ivo.
Friday Beach is about a man Kelvin (Mike Godson), who is in search of a perfect woman. A woman who will worship him. Unfortunately for him, he wasn’t getting that from his girlfriend.
As the movie progresses, Kelvin meets another woman Tracy (Mercy Isoyip), his dream girl. She cooked, cleaned and pretty much did whatever he asked. One of which he asks her to quit her job and marries her.
So to further dissect the movie, we are going to talk about the positives and the negatives.
The positives
- The sound – was great. It was clear from the beginning all through to the end.
- The banter – was funny and engaging. It made up for the subpar plot.
- Chigozie Atuanya and the guy who played the receptionist – Although Chigozie Atuanya’s character was underdeveloped and under-utilized, it made up for that by being very funny. His character was such a big kid and a joy to watch.
The guy who played the hotel receptionist was another standout performer. He was so funny. He was a ray of sunshine to behold.
Now we are done with the positives, time to switch to the negatives.
- The pacing of the movie – Whoever it is that was responsible for it did a terrible job. The way the movie transitioned from one scene to another looked very chopped and rushed – like a scrapbook in motion.
- The acting – 90% of the actors were mediocre. Their bodies were not in tune with their voices.
- The subplots – The Steven-Tamara subplot was very useless to the script. They were not even acknowledged in the end credits.
- The plot – what was the movie about? Because in the beginning, it looked like it was about Kelvin in search of that woman what would worship him and then we had the Steven-Tamara storyline to Kelvin being chased ferociously by Clara (Maureen Okpoko).
We couldn’t tell what exactly the movie was about and, this is because the movie had no conflict, no catalytic moment, no climax nor resolution.
It was just boring.
We give it a 2 out of 5.
