MERCY (Full Movie) | 2023 Latest Nigerian Movie Starring Blessing Obasi, Uzor Arukwe
1. First Impression
It was the only Nollywood movie recommended to me on my YouTube homepage, so I decided to check it out andโฆoh boy.
2. Plot
Piriye and Mercy are a happy couple. They have a daughter. Piriye worked for an MLM company but got fired due to low conversion rates. He takes up taxi driving to make ends meet but that fails too because he is unable to make the hire purchase payments.
Mercy is a tailor who is struggling and massively undercharged.
So one day out of frustration Piriye absconds with all their savings. Mercy is left to pay the rent and survive with their daughter.
She sells all their properties to pay rent and buy food. Mercy even tries to prostitute herself for money but opts to steal her Johnsโs money while he is asleep.
Weeks later, an NGO contacts her with news that she was given the $10,000 grant she applied for months ago.
She moves out of her old apartment, opens a shop and Piriye returns to beg for forgiveness.
Mercy forgives him and they live happily ever after.
3. Story
Not that it didโฆ Mercy’s suffering was so much, that there were no little wins in between.
I wish the film did more with its storytelling. Show us what Piriye was up to while he abandoned his family. Give Mercy more grit – show us what she was doing other than sit and cry while she was struggling. Go outside and film scenes.
4. Characters
No character stuck out to me but I will say all the actors were good enough for their roles. They performed all right.
5. Visuals and Cinematography
No striking visuals. Just your typical home video. No movie magic going on.
6. Emotional Impact
I was angry. The end made me very irate.
Why did the writer, producer and whoever think making Mercy take Piriye back was a good idea? That man stole her money and left her and their daughter for dead.
He only came back because she is now rich and they still make them reconcile?
Wow!
7. Pacing and Editing
The pace of the movie was appropriate. What it lacked was depth. The story could have been more than we got.
8. Soundtrack and Audio
The soundtrack was appropriate. It fits the sombre and low vibrational mood of the movie.
9. Themes and Messages
This film teaches a very dangerous lesson. It tells people who have been wronged deeply to just take it and forgive.
It teaches people to lack discernment. If your partner, friend or family member dumps you and steals from you at your lowest, it is okay. Just forgive them and let them back into your life when you are rich.
Whoever watches this mess and adheres to their โlessonโ would most certainly end up in the worst place.
10. Originality
The story is not original. It is the tried and true Nollywood story even down to the forgiveness.
11. Audience Appeal
My conscience would not allow me to recommend this movie to anybody. This is an insult to people who have gone through similar circumstances.
People should know that there is strength in cutting the wrong people out of your life. God won’t hate you because of it.
12. Overall Satisfaction
On a scale of 1 to 10, I am giving this movie a 1.
Its moral lesson is dangerous to people.
13. Final Thoughts
I am never watching this movie again.
Do you agree with me?
