nigerian movie: SOMEONE LIKE YOU
“Someone Like You” is what I would call the Nigerian version of “Deliver Us From Eva”. In Deliver Us From Eva, the titular character meddles in her sistersโ lives. In Someone Like You, Ciara is just a
The Plot Summary
The movie is about 3 people.
Osas plays Ciara
Bolanle plays Philip
Onyeka plays Bimbo
Bimbo is fed up with her friend Ciara’s constant put-downs. To teach Ciara a lesson, Bimbo recruits a kind-hearted cab driver, Philip, to pretend to be a rich man, Felix Okafor. Philipโs mission is to date Ciara, make her fall in love with him and eventually dump Ciara.
Philip agrees to the plan in exchange for Bimbo forgiving his sister’s debt. His sister Ebi, took a wig from Bimboโs shop to pose on TikTok, on her way to work to return the wig (Ebi works for Bimbo), the wig gets stolen. Since neither Philip nor Ebi can afford the 3 million naira to pay for the wig, he is forced to carry out Bimboโs revenge plot on Ciara.
Initially, when Philip starts dating Ciara, he thinks she is the most amazing person in the world and even chastises Bimbo for trying to hurt her sweet friend. However, as time goes on, Ciara starts showing her true colours as the relationship progresses.
Seeing the real her convinces Philip to go through with humiliating Ciara. The public embarrassment does humble Ciara but it doesnโt change her feelings for Philip. She still wants to be with him: rich or poor. Ultimately, Ciara apologizes for her behaviour and promises to seek professional help. The movie ends with Ciara and Philip together, and Bimbo and Ciara reconcile as friends.
My Thoughts
It was good. It was fast and it was easy to get through. I loved that they got straight to the point.
It wasn’t funny though. I think if it was, it could have worked very well for this film, but I guess they were going more for a drama.
Will I recommend it? Yeah, I totally will.
Do you agree with me?
