HEARTS OVER TIME: the love was undercooked

And unseasoned.

I cringed a lot because the chemistry was not chemistrying and I will tell you why. But first, let’s talk about the movie.

HEARTS OVER TIME is a Nigerian movie produced by Bolaji Ogunmola and it stars:

  • Bolaji Ogunmola as Yimika
  • Kanaga Emmanuel Eme as Kaydo
  • Kayode Junior as Seye
  • Tope Olowoniyan as Nora
  • Michael Ejoor as Imoh
  • Deborah David as Hauwa
  • Jessica Tse as Frances

HEARTS OVER TIME was written by Owumi Ugbeye and directed by Great-Valentine Edochie.

The Plot

Yimika is dating Imoh, who is cheating on her with Hauwa, his ex-girlfriend, whom he just reconnected with and got engaged to.

Yimika has a younger brother, Seye, who is best friends with Kaydo. Kaydo has had a lifelong crush on Yimika and now that he is a grown man who studied abroad and has a job, he believes he is finally “man enough” to date Yimika.

Seye is against it – STRONGLY against it.

One day, Yimika receives a weird text message from Imoh, which prompts her best friend, Nora, to drag her to Imoh’s place to pay him an unexpected visit. When they get to Imoh’s house, they catch him with Hauwa.

Yimika is devastated, and Kaydo tries to comfort her. At first, Yimika is rude and flippant to Kaydo, but with time, she softens and becomes friendlier.

Kaydo continues to confess his feelings for Yimika until she agrees to start dating him…

However, Seye finds out, and it causes a huge fight among Seye, Yimika, and Kaydo.

To appease her brother, Yimika breaks up with Kaydo, but after seeing how miserable Kaydo and Yimika are, Seye plans with Nora to reunite the couple.

The end.

Why I said HEARTS OVER TIME was undercooked and unseasoned

This film was meant to be a romance movie, but the romance was missing in the story. We barely spent any time with Kaydo and Yimika as a couple.

We weren’t shown how he suddenly moved from “small boy” to “hot man I want to fuck.”

All we saw was them having dinner and exchanging text messages.

What saddens me is that Yimika and Kaydo had the potential to have good chemistry, but their love story was written so poorly that I cringed more than I “aww-ed.”

As a matter of fact, I didn’t aww at all.

This is unfortunate because I’ve liked the movies Bolaji Ogunmola has produced in the past.

Final Thoughts

So yeah, that’s it. Those are my thoughts.

Are you going to watch this?
