White Wings is a story about a man, Tonye and a woman, Ene. They meet in unfavourable circumstances but life be life-ing and things change.

White Wings is a movie on the Onyii Alex YouTube channel. It is her first foray into movie production, I believe.

For this movie, she decided to team up with Ben Cassie, who has a preference for always featuring three specific people in his movies. He usually casts Clinton Joshua Ezewele, Nana Boamah a.k.a. Ny Addae, and Kofi Ajorlolo.

In this movie, Kofi Ajorlolo had just a cameo as the pastor at the wedding, so he didn’t do much.

Ever since Treasure in the Sky went viral—insanely viral—every YouTube channel has been cashing in on the idea that someone beloved dies at the end of the story. I’ve watched several films now where a character dies in the end.

Movies Like Treasure in the Sky

In Unexpected Places, Timini Egbuson’s character had liver disease and died after turning his life around. Another film, April’s Miracle, had a character, April Kessiena, who died of cancer.

Then in Treasure in the Sky, the character died of leukemia. Now, we have White Wings – a story that follows an amazing lady who has gone through hell in life. Just when she’s about to enjoy her life and be in love with her rich boy toy, she dies of cancer. Quite the sad turn of events.

So, what is White Wings about?

White Wings is about two people, Ene, played by Onyi Alex, and Clinton Joshua, starring as Tonye. Tonye comes from a rich family and has a mother, Mrs Onyebra (Patricia Charles), who thinks the world of him. In Mrs Onyebra’s head, Tonye is a good and well-behaved boy.

Tonye has a friend called Daniel (Nana Boamah) who is leading Tonye astray by making him smoke weed, drink, party hard, and be irresponsible.

Ene is in a toxic relationship with Chibuzo (Chuks Chyke), and my God, that motherfucker is a real demon. Chibuzo beats her, cheats on her, and brings other women into their home, forcing her to pretend to be his sister while his mistresses are around.

In the beginning

The movie starts with Ene driving and talking on the phone, possibly with Chibuzo. She runs into Tonye’s car, and he insults her. She trails him to a supermarket and writes an insult on his car with lipstick. Tonye retaliates by trashing her house.

Housekeeper

Mrs. Onyebra returns home from her trip and realizes that the housekeeper has quit her job. So she asks the agency she uses to get her a new housekeeper. Ene, who has been looking for a job, is referred to Mrs. Onyebra.

On their first meeting, Mrs. Onyebra takes a liking to Ene and hires her. On Ene’s way out, excited about her new job, she runs into Tonye, who has just returned home. Tonye demands that she quit the job. If she doesn’t, he will make her life a living hell.

Ene wants to quit, but Chibuzo doesn’t allow her because he is a lazy bum who needs his girlfriend to work while he chops and whores around.

Living Hell

While working in the Onyebra household, Ene is treated in two different ways. Mrs Onyebra treats her with kindness and respect, while Tonye makes her life a living hell by making her do childish punishments like facing the wall, etc.

To make matters worse, Ene returns home from work and finds Chibuzo with a strange woman in their parlour, kissing. Chibuzo calls Ene his sister Edith, who just returned from the village. Ene agrees to be called his sister because to deny him would mean asking for physical abuse.

Triple Heartbreak

One day, Mrs. Onyebra returns abruptly from another trip because she discovered money left the company account. She also finds out that Tonye has not been going to work and managing the company as he was pretending to be.

Tonye is shocked himself because he never gave his stand-in access to the company accounts, but his mother was so disappointed and heartbroken.

Tonye meets up with Daniel to vent, and one thing leads to another; Daniel lets it slip that he is responsible for the embezzlement of company funds. Tonye tries to fight Daniel, but Daniel overpowers him and beats him to a pulp.

Tonye returns home to speak to his mother, but she refuses to speak to him that night. The next morning, Tonye bursts into her bedroom, determined to get her forgiveness, but Mrs. Onyebra doesn’t respond. So Tonye moves closer to her, only to discover his mother has passed away.

New Beginnings

After his mother’s funeral, Ene tenders her resignation letter, but Tonye begs her not to go. He also apologizes for being an asshole to her and promises to do right by her and his mother.

He also offers Ene the boys’ quarters to stay as a way to get away from Chibuzo’s abuse. Ene takes him up on that offer.

Tonye and Ene build a bond, which leads him to confess his feelings for her. Ene rejects him. They give each other the silent treatment until he can’t take it anymore, and he reiterates that he is in love with her.

Ene says she cannot love him because she is dying, but Tonye doesn’t care. He promises to love her till her dying breath and will make her life charmed from then on out.

Which he does.

Forgiveness and I Do

Daniel returns, contrite and asking for forgiveness. Tonye forgives him. Tonye then proposes to Ene. She tries to argue why it is a bad idea, but Tonye is resolute. She is the woman he wants to call his wife. So she says yes, they get married, and months later:

ENE DIES.

The end.

My Thoughts

The movie was long—three hours—but eventful and emotionally charged. I respect the story’s willingness to kill off characters to push the plot forward. If I were to rate it, I’d give it a 6 out of 10. It’s a nice movie worth watching.
