Disaster Movie Watch: THE DAY AFTER TOMORROW

Hi there!

In honour of Twisters 2024, I will be watching 4 disaster movies as recommended to me by IMDB

So without talking too much, let’s begin.

Frank’s death broke me. I was so sad. If you don’t remember who Frank was, he was Jack’s (Dennis Quaid) colleague who had to sacrifice himself to save Jack and Jason.

Another Death that hurt me

Terry, Simon and Dennis: the three oceanographers who noticed the changes in the ocean currents and sea level.

They were the ones who gave Jack the information he needed to predict the incoming disaster.

There was this scene where they were drinking their last glass of scotch and Simon said

“I wish I saw him grow up”,

referring to his infant son and Terry replies with

“The important thing is that he would grow up”

That was so sad. It hurt my spirit.

The Vice President was a prick

That man was an ITK who felt he was better than everybody. He was the literary embodiment of the douchebag politicians we have today.

They never listen to reason, only their egos. He didn’t deserve to be the President. I get that he turned a corner in the end but

Familiar Face

I was surprised to see Brooke’s husband from One Tree Hill in this movie.

Funny Scenes

The first was when they showed Mexico closing their borders to the refugees from the USA. That was so funny. I couldn’t stop laughing.

The POTUS had to forgive all of the LATAM debt before they were allowed into Mexico.

The second was in the scene where Sam (Jake Gyllenhaal) and the other survivors in the library were raiding the vending machines.

J.D. (Austin Nichols) was like

“we’re not going to survive off of chips and chocolates alone”

and Luther (Glenn Plummer) the homeless guy replied,

“what about the trash, there’s always something nice to eat there.”

It was both funny and sad. But more funny than sad.

All in All

I enjoyed the movie. The end had me emotional and for those who haven’t seen it recently, you should. It is a really good movie with some excellent CGI.

Are you going to watch this?
