You can tell by this title that I know nothing about Greek mythology.
A transcendent, unmitigated bastard
That was what Prometheus called Zeus who lives on a Mount Olympus that looks like the US Open. Everyone is dressed like a tennis player.
Prometheus says that there is a plan for Zeus’s downfall and it involves three humans. The first human is called Eurydice a.k.a Riddy.
Riddy
She hates her husband, Orpheus and wants to leave him. I initially thought her husband was an asshole.
No, he isn’t. Orpheus is a wonderful man who loves Eurydice with all his life. He loves her loudly and proudly: something a lot of women would want but not Eurydice. She prefers struggle love.
It is “Happy Olympia” day in Krete and Eurydice goes to the grocery store to stock up. She also has to buy the cereal Orpheus told her to buy but she can’t remember because she tunes him out whenever he speaks.
Let me not drag her yet because…
In the mall, she meets some crazy woman with a nose tattoo and the yellowest teeth I have ever seen on a human being.
The woman tells Eurydice:
Every day, you say it is the day you will leave him but never do it. Today is that day.
Eurydice is shocked the woman knows she wants to leave Orpheus but before she can ask the weirdo chick more questions, the woman disappears.
By the way, the woman’s name is Cassandra. I don’t think I heard it while watching this episode. I had to check IMDB for it.
Dionysus
Zeus’ demi-god son he promoted to god status. For those who don’t know what god Dionysus is, he is the god of partying, drinking and debauchery.
He is tired of his title and wants Zeus to promote him to be in charge of love or war.
LOL – well, there is only so much fucking and sucking one can do before they get bored.
So he goes to Zeus with a gift in hand – a watch – and tries to convince Zeus.
First of all, Zeus hates the watch and second, Zeus ignores him.
Also, Hera hates Dionysus because he is a bastard and a constant reminder of Zeus’ being a whore. Dionysus hates her right back for being a passive-aggressive stepmum and turning his own mother into a bee.
In defiance of Zeus, Dionysus steals Zeus’ watch – the watch Hercules made for him.
Orpheus
I don’t have much to say about him in this episode other than he is a wonderful husband who doesn’t know his wife hates him.
He is also a great singer who is loved by everyone.
Zeus
He is an asshole and loves being worshipped. There was a lady called Agatha who sacrificed herself to the gods on Happy Olympia Day and all Zeus said was:
look at Agatha’s ugly shoes.
That is how out of touch Zeus is. However, something happens that rattles him.
On Happy Olympia Day, there is always this big display of devotion to the gods – Zeus – that is done. So Zeus was expecting it this as per usual but what he got was a pile of shit with the inscription
FUCK THE GODS
At first, Zeus is very angry and says he would wipe these fuckers (humans) off the surface of the earth. But Hera does her best to calm him down.
Then Zeus sees a vertical line on his forehead and he remembers the prophecy:
He summons Prometheus from where he is being devoured by an eagle to him.
Prometheus tells him that there is nothing to the prophecy. Everything is alright. No big deal.
Of course, Prometheus is fucking with him.
But then, something strange happens that kicks the whole story in high gear.
Cassandra
Eurydice goes to visit her mother, The Tacita.
The Tacita is a priestess of Hera and had her tongue cut off.
Also because of her calling, she basically abandoned Eurydice to fend for herself. Eurydice goes to her for advice and comfort as she is in a crisis of whether or not to leave her husband.
She even in anger said “fuck the gods, I defy them”
All The Tacita does is to write her a note about her prophecy and it reads:
This annoys Eurydice and she leaves. On her way out, she sees Cassandra again and tries to talk to Cassandra but this time, Eurydice is hit by a truck.
Then Cassandra turns and says:
I told you, you’d leave him today. You leave everyone today.
The Aftermath of Riddy’s Death
Orpheus is heartbroken and tries to kill himself.
After speaking to the falafel man, Dionysus decides that Orpheus would be his new purpose in life.
The Tacita and Cassandra stand side-by-side at Eurydice’s funeral.
Prometheus says that Zeus wasn’t always a god;
which confused the hell out of me.
Eurydice is on a voyage on River Styx to The Underworld.
My Thoughts
I liked episode 1 and I am curious what would happen next. So let’s hope it is fun.
