When this movie started taking shape, I thought his wife, Emily and his side chick, Uyai were in cahoots but
That wasn’t the case.
Recap
LOVE, AMELIA is a movie about a cheating man, Deyemi getting his karma in the funniest and saddest of ways.
The movie starts with Deyemi arriving in America, alone and some random woman accosts him. He immediately without looking at her says,
no pictures please
and walks away.
Later that day, he asks some bartender where he can find nice Nigerian food and the bartender points at the woman he met earlier as someone who can help him with that
Deyemi goes to meet the woman and she responds
no pictures please
which makes Deyemi remember she was the lady he met earlier. He apologises for his behaviour and explains that he is a musician. He thought she was a fan but she says she has never heard of him because she doesn’t listen to Nigerian music.
Deyemi likes that because she is someone he can be around. She doesn’t know him, so he can be his true self. So he asks her what her name is and she says is Uyai Amelia.
Deyemi and Uyai
For the remaining 10 days Deyemi spends in Dallas, he and Uyai are inseparable. He shares his hopes and dreams with her, tells her he loves her and ultimately promises to keep in touch when he returns to Nigeria.
Deyemi in Nigeria
Deyemi, the
is a married father of one. His wife Emily is a hotshot lawyer and his daughter, Riri is a five-year-old.
While he is back in Nigeria, he ends all communication with Uyai. At first, she blows up his phone but then she goes radio silent.
Uyai is coo-coo for married man meat
Deyemi starts seeing what he thinks to be Uyai in Nigeria which is weird. He lets his manager, Ray know about it and Ray rightfully panics because they are close to an album launch. They cannot afford a scandal.
One afternoon, Deyemi goes to meet Emily at a restaurant for a meeting and what do you know, she is seated with her new client, Uyai Etim.
This freaks Deyemi the fuck out and that begins his nightmare.
first Uyai says she is pregnant for Deyemi when he says it is impossible because he used a condom. Uyai replies:
I poked holes in the condom. I love you and I want to have your baby.
Then she sends him his nude photos via his daughter, Riri’s backpack.
That same day, she also visits him to give Emily evidence which surprises Emily because she never gave Uyai their home address.
Deyemi has enough of it and goes to visit Uyai but her demands are unreasonable. She wants him to divorce his wife and marry her.
Deyemi leaves but he is forced to go back to her because Ray calls him to tell him of a blind item by a blogger about having an artist’s nudes.
Uyai goes bonkers for real this time
Deyemi starts sleeping with Uyai to pacify her which works at first but later on she wants more and demands that he divorce his wife.
Deyemi having had enough of her bullshit dumps her for real this time. Uyai doesn’t take it well and proceeds to kidnap Riri.
After kidnapping Riri, the truth is revealed:
Uyai was Emily’s therapist when she was going through postpartum depression while Deyemi was fucking students.
Emily told Uyai during therapy that she regrets marrying Deyemi.
Uyai being a psycho, becomes obsessed with Deyemi and stalks him to America where she has a romance with him.
Now she wants Emily out of the picture and Riri is her bargaining chip.
The Scandal
Emily works with the police and is able to rescue Riri from Uyai’s clutches.
She also dumps Deyemi because why keep a whore around. He’s useless.
Uyai releases Deyemi’s nude photos for the world to see before she is arrested.
Deyemi begs Emily to take him back but she refuses. She is done with the whore. A move I support.
Outro
Love, Amelia was unpredictable and I liked that. If I were to score it, I would give it a 5.5 out of 10. Also, Tana’s dresses were a moment.
