God’s Not Dead: In God We Trust – When Religion and Politics Collide

Reverend David Hill was NOT ready for politics, but he had a goal:

His aim was to ensure that he provided help to the people who needed it. The government was closing in on religion and his back was against the wall. The women’s shelter he supported lost funding because the building was used for bible study. So once the opportunity to change the fate of those he cared about came, Reverend Hill took it.

Running against Peter Kane would be a nightmare.

Kane’s desire to remove religion from politics was the least of his negative traits. That man had no moral compass. He was obsessed with power and would do anything to keep it. Peter Kane lied, cheated and played dirty. A person like him should never be elected into office.

I admit that Peter Kane had a point about religion.

Some religious people tend to tether on the edge of fanaticism which promotes division and outright hate. However, his generalistic view of the situation was not the best.

Lottie, Reverend Hill’s campaign manager was obsessed with winning.

Lottie wanted to stick it to her baby daddy, John (Kane’s campaign manager) and show him how much better she was than him. Her obsession made them vulnerable to framing. If she never snooped, John wouldn’t have put something out there for them to use against Kane. Also, had she not asked for funding from Shelley, there wouldn’t have been that loose end of Shelley’s desperation torpedoing their campaign.

Some thoughts about some characters

Two things I was very curious about in the movie were: one, what made Kane hate religion so much? I wish they delved into that. Two, did John ever find out about his son? Will he ever find out? Or maybe they showed a very real situation that happens in life where a woman never tells the father of her child that he has a child.

All in all

I liked this movie, it was feel feel-good, lifetime-esque movie about taking elections very seriously and making sure to vote for politicians who care about the people. Do not vote for those who are obsessed with power because they don’t care about you.
