Welcome to my binge diary for Heartstopper Series 3 and it was a wholesome watch. I enjoyed it even though I took my time (3 days). So yeah, here are my thoughts.
Episode 1 – Love
This episode sets up the plot threads of the season. Charlie’s eating disorder is getting worse and Nick is worried about him. Tori is as well.
Tara is getting overwhelmed by Darcy living with her because Darcy is messy. A very dirty person.
Tao is so in love he can’t see straight. He is obsessed with making the summer break all about Elle which is making Isaac feel left out.
Tara and Nick touch base and I like that Nick and Tara have managed to maintain their friendship over the years. It’s good. Tara reveals to Nick that she is stressed about 6th form while Nick refuses to tell her anything much but Tara is supportive nonetheless.
These kids are too young to be worrying about so much.
Tara is able to tell Darcy to go live with their grandma and Darcy takes it well. I will commend these two for having the most mature relationship of the bunch.
Maybe because they’ve been together for so long that’s why.
I don’t get why Tao and Elle didn’t order a proper meal for dinner. They know they can order something other than pizza for dinner right?
Episode 2 – Home
Darcy’s Nan is so much fun. She is an old lady who remembers she used to be young once upon a time and treats her grandchild like a person going through life with fresh eyes.
Darcy failed and squeezed their results. I don’t understand why Darcy doesn’t take serious things like school, work, and their future seriously. Darcy is so focused on the now which is a good thing but they are not focused on the now that also matters. Darcy is only focused on the now that feels good.
Maybe they are on to something. I don’t know.
Isaac is very observant. He could tell something was not right with Charlie, and he was worried about Charlie.
Tao and Elle said I love you – those two are fast. They are the last to get together but their relationship has been on turbo speed.
Charlie finally admits to Nick that he has an eating disorder. Tori did a big one there. She texted Nick to tell him that she was worried about Charlie.
So Nick called Charlie and Charlie admitted that he had a problem.
I loved what Nick’s aunt said. You are a teenage boy, not a therapist. All you can offer is love and support. It is not your job to take on the burden.
Episode 3 – Talk
The fight between Tao and Isaac was weird as hell but it became an opportunity for Isaac to come out as asexual and aromantic.
Charlie frustrated me in this episode. Matter of fact, since this season began.
Episode 4 – Journey
I liked that the writers maintained Nick and Tara’s friendship. They also kept his friendship with the rugby boys alive, which is great.
Imogen is a funny girl.
I think Nick and Charlie are codependent. They struggle to exist when the other isn’t near and that is not healthy.
Tao knows how to be a good friend, that video he made for Charlie was so thoughtful. Even when he was there to comfort Nick was commendable.
Episode 5 – Winter
I think Charlie’s mother needs therapy. She is always stressed and in turn, stresses her kids. That is a very toxic situation for a child to live in.
Somebody, please hold me because I so badly want to reach and smack the fuck out of Nick’s brother. He talks anyhow; always running his mouth without considering the feelings of the people he is talking to.
Also, where is OLIVIA COLMAN?
I’m tired of Charlie’s family. If it’s not his mother being perpetually anxious and quick to anger, it is his uncle and cousins saying the most ignorant things about what goes on in a mental health clinic.
Even Charlie is a dickhead to his sister. Tori wants to spend time with him but he ignores her to go be with his boyfriend.
I get that love can be intoxicating but family is forever and the last thing you want to do is push good family members to the side.
So Nick’s aunt is filling in for his mother?
His mother is the Phantom. They speak of her like she exists but we never see her.
Imogen has a drinking problem.
Tao is HORNY! Elle is too but she is hesitant.
Tori found her person… AWW. The connection was instant.
Tao and Elle did it and Isaac has made an extra friend for the time being.
Episode 6 – Body
Nick is a saint. He is so patient with Charlie.
I know myself, I can’t. I don’t have the emotional capacity for that.
Charlie and Nick’s kissing is getting more intense
Not Tao with the “I’m no longer a virgin” glow advising Charlie to take things further with Nick. LOL.
I know Isaac is asexual and aromantic but the constant passive aggression towards Tao and Elle’s relationship makes him look like he is in love with them.
Isaac honey, do you want a throuple with Elle and Tao?
Tara resents the attention she gets for being super smart and accomplished.
Michael is the name of Tori’s person, and he is as awkward; if not more than her. Tori is a quiet kind of awkward, while Michael is a yapper.
Imogen wants to get drunk again. Who is going to tell this girl that she has a drinking problem? Also, there is a lot of underage drinking going on in this episode.
Why did these idiots at the radio station bamboozle a child (Elle) with questions about transitioning? Why not invite an adult to discuss such issues?
Inviting Elle for a radio interview under the guise of discussing her art is vile.
Charlie’s mother walked in on Nick and Charlie kissing intensely. Now she doesn’t know how to react.
Parents, when your child becomes a teenager, learn to knock. If you don’t you will see the things you don’t want to see. Things that will scar you for life.
I like Charlie’s therapist. He said, “SAFE SEX IS THE ONLY GOOD SEX.”
Episode 7 – Together
The opening song is so good that I googled the lyrics to find the song. It is Dive by Olivia Dean.
Enjoy:
Nick is HORNY. So horny, he can’t think straight anymore.
Nick’s brother is getting on my last nerves. He barged into Nick’s room and saw Nick and Charlie kissing.
Can’t you knock?! What the fuck is wrong with you?!
Charlie said to Nick: I’m glad it wasn’t your mum.
Well, there’s no mum this season. So you’re fine.
Oh my God, these kids and their love, is so cringe. Which if I am being honest, isn’t bad. It just means that their love is pure.
The way Nick and Charlie are trying to schedule this hump session.
Ah! To be young, horny and under your parent’s roof.
Tori’s person, Michael, talks too effing much but he was spitting some gems. He said and I quote
you don’t need to schedule a sleepover to have sex.
Tara and Nick’s friendship is so good. They truly care about each other and are each other’s safe place outside of their respective relationships.
Tao has found his passion but he doesn’t know it yet. He is a filmmaker. He will realise it eventually.
Nick keeps postponing his Uni application because he has a codependent relationship with Charlie.
He is too young to stall his life for love. This is not going to end well for them.
Nick is finally trauma-dumping on Charlie. It is good to see Superman be just a regular teenage boy.
Episode 8 – Apart
Charlie said he doesn’t want to be seen as fragile but he is already pouting at the possibility of Nick going to Leeds.
Tori gets flustered when she is asked about Michael.
Charlie’s mother asked for a compromise. She said he could go to Nick’s for a sleepover after his GCSEs.
The poor woman doesn’t know that Charlie has already taken the bus to Pound Town.
Elle, Imogen, Nick and Tara are on a uni tour. They go to Oxford and Tara looks annoyed. She hates it and doesn’t want to go to university. She doesn’t even know what she wants to do with her life.
I’m going to be the bad person and say it. Tara is dating a disorganised person, Darcy and it is affecting her because she doesn’t know what she wants to do with her life. She is just floating aimlessly.
Nick liked Leeds a lot but is having sleepless nights over the 4-hour distance.
Boy don’t annoy me.
Michael wants more with Tori but she has been avoiding him because she has been giving all her love to her brother.
She was fine just caring only about Charlie and being there for him. I like Tori. She is A SISTER.
Charlie told her not to worry so much about him. Tori listened and stopped avoiding Michael.
So the season ends without Nick telling Charlie that he loves Leeds and wants to go there for Uni.
SMH. That can’t be good.
Do you agree with me?
